Manchester United’s post-Ruben Amorim chapter began in underwhelming fashion as they surrendered a lead in a 2–2 draw against Burnley, extending their run to four draws in their last six Premier League outings.
Much of the build-up focused on Amorim’s dismissal, but with Darren Fletcher taking interim charge, United’s early performance offered little change. In fact, they fell behind against a Burnley side winless in 11 matches, with a slice of misfortune playing a part. Bashir Humphreys’ cross deflected off Ayden Heaven and looped beyond the stranded goalkeeper into the far corner.
United struggled to generate momentum initially, though they eventually tested Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka when Bruno Fernandes, making his return from injury, delivered a pinpoint cross for Benjamin Šeško, whose header was comfortably saved.
The visitors thought they had equalised soon after. Matheus Cunha’s goalbound header was dramatically cleared off the line by Humphreys, and Lisandro Martínez then swept home from the resulting corner. However, the goal was chalked off for a foul on Kyle Walker during the build-up, much to Fletcher’s frustration on the touchline.
United finished the half strongly, with Šeško forcing an excellent fingertip save from Dúbravka before Manuel Ugarte narrowly missed the target from close range.
Their pressure finally paid off shortly after the interval when Fernandes slipped a clever pass through for Šeško, who guided a composed finish into the far corner to draw United level.
Wave after wave of United attacks followed. Fernandes rattled the post with a fierce effort, while Heaven somehow headed wide from six yards out. The breakthrough arrived on the hour mark as Šeško, who struggled under Amorim, darted across the near post to turn Patrick Dorgu’s cross into the net for his second of the evening.
Yet, familiar problems resurfaced for United. Burnley hit back through substitute Jaidon Anthony, who curled a superb left-footed strike into the corner from the edge of the box.
United pushed for a late winner, with academy graduate Shea Lacey coming agonisingly close after crashing a shot against the crossbar before sending another long-range attempt just wide.
In the end, both sides had to settle for a point—an outcome that did little to revive United’s top-four ambitions, while Burnley’s winless streak stretched to 12 matches.
