Manchester United will travel to Turf Moor this week to face Burnley, but interim manager Darren Fletcher will be without several key players for his first match in charge of the Red Devils.
Fletcher steps into the dugout following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim on Monday morning and will be eager to begin his interim spell with a positive result. While the starting lineup remains uncertain, the list of unavailable players has now been confirmed ahead of the crucial Premier League encounter.
Players Unavailable for Burnley Clash
Three United players will miss the trip due to international commitments at the Africa Cup of Nations. Amad Diallo is representing Ivory Coast, Noussair Mazraoui has joined Morocco’s squad, and Bryan Mbeumo is away with Cameroon, ruling all three out of contention.
Meanwhile, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will also be unavailable despite returning to training this week. The youngster is still recovering from a calf injury that has sidelined him since December 15 and will not be risked against Burnley.
Defensive reinforcements are also limited, as Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a back injury sustained in early December. The Dutch defender last featured in United’s away victory over Crystal Palace on November 30 and is not yet ready to return.
Boost as Maguire and Fernandes Return
Despite the absences, Fletcher has received a significant boost with the return of both Harry Maguire and club captain Bruno Fernandes. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the duo are back in the squad and available for selection.
“Good news for Manchester United as Harry Maguire returns with the squad for the Burnley game,” Romano reported.
“Maguire has been spotted at the team hotel today and is set to be available after a long injury layoff. Bruno Fernandes is also back.”
Their availability will be welcome news for Fletcher as he looks to balance experience and leadership within his starting eleven while pushing for a vital three points.
